Nintendo is responding “rigorously” to the demand for multiple switch consoles per household

We got some information this week about Nintendo’s recent financial results. Following the publication of the nine months of 2020 on Monday, the question and answer session between Nintendo President Shuntaro Furakawa and numerous investors has also been announced.

It has raised several points of interest – namely when we can expect the upcoming games from Nintendo – and an investor believes that with nearly 80 million copies sold to date, the Switch could eventually catch up with the Nintendo Wii’s lifetime sales by more than 101 million.

Furukawa asks what Nintendo will do to further boost Switch sales and starts quoting Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ good luck getting people interested, in addition to nostalgia for Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary.

He went on to detail the demand for multiple consoles within one family, confirming:

Our research found that approximately 20% of the resold Nintendo Switch family between October and December 2020 in major regions was due to the demand for multiple systems within the same family. We will strive to keep increasing our sales volume by also rigorously responding to this type of demand for multiple systems.

While stock has improved in recent times, Switch consoles were notoriously difficult to find during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, a situation that led some retailers to push up prices. It is therefore gratifying to see that Nintendo is not only aware of the demand, but will also try “rigorously” to meet it.
