Nintendo Executive has blocked remake of GoldenEye 007, says Former Rare Dev

It was quite a historic moment in video game history last week when Rare’s XBLA remake / remaster of GoldenEye 007 has been leaked on the internet. The game that no one thought would see the light of day was actually released.

After this, discussions immediately surfaced about the license and the parties for and against the release of the game. We then heard that it wasn’t Nintendo to blame, but it may have played a part.

Now, in a minor update, former Rare artist, Ross Bury, has shared some additional insights with Ars Technica, revealing how the game had been approved by everyone at Nintendo – or so they thought until a company executive (who is still unknown) stopped. the project when it was already completed.

“When it was presented to Nintendo, everyone approved, except they didn’t ask the only guy who mattered … I believe I was told his answer was, ‘There’s no way a Nintendo game on a Microsoft console. “

Bury adds that the “orders from the exec trumps all,” which, according to Ars Technica, included MGM and OEM handling of the Bond video games at the time.

Keep in mind that this is just one account of what happened, there’s still a possibility that the whole situation wasn’t helped by MGM and co. In 2016 Xbox head Phil SpencerGoldenEye said 007 was “always a matter of rights” rather than something else.
