Nintendo continues to support UK games retail | UK Boxed Charts

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is number 1 again

Animal Crossing: New Horizons hits its third consecutive number 1 in the UK boxed charts.

The Nintendo Switch exclusive is securing its place on the top despite a 24% drop in sales from week to week. It’s another week where Switch dominated the UK boxed games business, with Mario Kart 8: Deluxe at # 2 (sales down 23%), Super Mario 3D World at # 8 (sales down 3%), New Super Mario Bros U at number 9 (sales down 15%) and Ring Fit Adventure at number 10 (down 37%). There are 10 Switch games in the Top 20 bestselling games.

Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2021 is at number 3 despite a 29% drop in sales. This week, 87% of the game’s sales were on Nintendo Switch.

Switch is proving to be the savior for British boxed retailers. For the first two weeks of 2021, game sales are up 27.4% compared to the same period last year, and this is almost entirely due to games for Nintendo Switch (total Switch game sales are up 120% since the beginning of the year). PlayStation game sales are also up slightly when we combine sales of PS4 and PS5 games together.

The only game in the top ten to increase sales week-over-week was the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto 5, which climbs four places to number 4 thanks to a 6% increase in sales.

There’s only one new game on the charts this week, and it’s the first new game to crack the Top 40 of 2021. Five Nights At Freddy’s: Core Collection makes issue 32, published by Maximum Games. 55% of sales came on Nintendo Switch, 24% on PS4 and 21% on Xbox One.
