Called Go Flyease, the first pair of laceless sneakers from Nike that can be easily put on and taken off without using your hands. The casual shoe comes at a time when people are touching less things during the pandemic and a resurgence of more comfortable counterparts that require minimal effort to put on and take off, such as Crocs.
The Go Flyease has unique features, including a strap that secures the shoe instead of laces. To put them on, all you have to do is step into the shoe so that it clicks into place. You take off by stepping on the heel.
The shoes will go on sale on February 15 for $ 120 to subscribers to the free membership program on Nike’s website. Wider availability is planned for later this year.
Nike’s new shoes come at a time when consumers are longing for comfort at home. That appears from Crocs (CROX)‘most recent earnings, which showed that sales were up 55%. The company said it expects 2020 to be its biggest sales year ever.
The launch of the new shoes on its website also fits in Nike’s (FROM) strategy to sell directly to consumers instead of through external retailers. The company reported in December that online sales were up 84% in the most recent quarter as people bought fitness and leisure shoes.
