The fifth time is the charm.
Nicolas Cage is a married man again after marrying Riko Shibata at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas last month, Page Six can confirm.
“It is true and we are very happy,” the actor said in a statement.
The couple married in a small ceremony on Feb. 16, a date chosen to honor the anniversary of the groom’s deceased father, according to Cage’s statement.
Riko wore a handmade bridal kimono from Kyoto; Cage’s tuxedo belonged to Tom Ford. The couple exchanged traditional Catholic and Shinto vows with readings of Walt Whitman poetry and Japanese haiku ‘sprinkled in’.
Cage’s ex-wife Alice Kim – with whom the actor is still on good terms – joined the pair to celebrate afterward, along with Kim and Cage’s son Kal.
Cage and Riko met in Shiga, Japan, and have been together since shortly after the dissolution of Cage’s last marriage to Erika Koike – which lasted four days in 2019.
Shortly before the New York pandemic ended in March 2020, Cage and Riko were spotted on a date at Tavern on the Green, where they “didn’t talk much” but made sure to “drink plenty” before taking a carriage ride. Central Park, which had already been at the Museum of Natural History earlier this week.
According to the Daily Mail, Cage, who introduced Riko’s ring to Japan via FaceTime and FedExed, announced their engagement in August on his brother Marc Coppola’s radio show.
“She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada and I haven’t seen her in six months,” he told Marc. “We’re really happy together and we’re really excited to spend that time together, so I ended up just saying,” Look, I want to marry you “and we got engaged on FaceTime.”
At the age of 26, Riko is four years younger than Weston, the first son of 57-year-old Cage. It’s her first marriage.
Cage memorably claimed in court documents that he “had no understanding of his actions while getting married [Koike] as far as he was unable to consent to the marriage. That was his fourth divorce; he was married to Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001, Lisa Marie Presley from 2002 to 2004, and Kim from 2004 to 2016.
Last seen on Netflix’s “History of Swear Words”, Cage will play “Tiger King” Joe Exotic in Amazon’s upcoming scripted adaptation of the wildlife saga.
