Nicola Sturgeon admits to breaking her own COVID-19 mask rules

The Scotland leader admitted on Wednesday that she had broken her own strict COVID-19 rules after being photographed without a mask in a pub.

“This was a stupid mistake and I’m really sorry,” said Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon after the Scottish edition of The Sun published a photo on the front page of her speaking to a group of women without a face covering last Friday.

“I talk about the importance of masks every day, so I’m not going to apologize,” said the Scottish government leader.

“I was wrong, I kick myself, and I’m sorry,” she said.

Sturgeon, the leader of the Scottish National Party, only admitted the mistake after the sun showed her talking to a group of women in a pub after a funeral in Edinburgh last week.

It was printed just a day after Sturgeon made her last speech in the Scottish Parliament on the importance of wearing masks. Under a law passed by her party, customers in pubs and restaurants must cover their faces unless sitting at a table.

Its political rivals, the Scottish Conservatives, tweeted the front of the sun, saying that Sturgeon “should know better”.

“There cannot be one rule for Nicola Sturgeon and another for everyone else,” the party said.
