NFL Rumors: Bears and Colts aren’t just teams calling about Carson Wentz

In recent days, the Colts and Bears have clearly emerged as the two best possible landing spots for Carson Wentz, but it seems some other teams are at least keeping watch.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was on the John Kincade Show on 97.5 The Fanatic Wednesday morning and was asked about interest from other teams.

“This is what I can tell you,” said Schefter. “The Bears and Colts aren’t the only teams, by no means, to have called about Carson Wentz. Is there a team ready to act now? I don’t know the answer to that. I do not know. Is there a team lurking? I do not know. I know they’ve gotten enough interest from enough teams.

“I would say that I could count that I know of at least two or three other teams called. Doesn’t mean they are in it or not, but they called to see what it takes. And you wait to see if any of them eventually take it a step further or not. “

OK, so how real is this? It’s hard to know. Because teams are calling, but that doesn’t really let us know they’re interested in Wentz. However, it seems possible for a team to keep an eye on the situation, ready to spring up if the price drops a bit.

The Colts and Bears are clearly at the top of the list for now, but NJ.com’s Mike Kaye reported that the trading market for Wentz has cooled somewhat as the Eagles have held on to their asking price. That report also says the Bears are getting impatient with the Eagles.

Which leads us to this mailbag from the Chicago Tribune‘s Brad Biggs, who was asked if the Bears are “all in” on Wentz. He says they are not because they keep their options open.

Biggs also wrote, “I feel like the Philadelphia Eagles have been working overtime to spark more interest in Wentz than there really is.”

Yes, that seems likely. Howie Roseman is pretty good at ramping up a market and this is a perfect opportunity to do it again. On Friday and Saturday, there appeared to be a significant boost to trading, but things have seemingly slowed down since then.

Schefter stood by the weekend’s ESPN report Wednesday morning that said the Eagles’ Wentz trading could take place as early as this week.

“I still think it could be this week. It doesn’t mean it will be this week, ”he said. But I still think it’s definitely the trend for him to be traded. I still believe he is being traded. We’ll see if it’s today or tomorrow or Friday or see you next week. But they are going to handle him. “
