1. At the very end of Wednesday Good morning football, Nate Burleson quickly changed the subject from the Senior Bowl to the troubling arrest of Seahawks offensive lineman Chad Wheeler.
Wheeler was arrested Monday night on charges of domestic violence and released Tuesday on $ 400,000 bail. According to the police report, Wheeler attacked his girlfriend after telling her to bow to him and she refused. Obviously, this isn’t a story the NFL wants to show across its network, especially in the run-up to the Super Bowl. But luckily, that didn’t stop Burleson from getting off the script and tackling the ugly story.
Burleson said on the air that his supporters – Kay Adams, Peter Schrager and Kyle Brandt – and the show’s producers were unaware that he was about to change direction and bring up Wheeler’s arrest for domestic violence. This is what he said:
“Mark my words. If someone hits a ball at the Senior Bowl, he goes out in the NFL. But guys I have to take a sharp left turn. Something has been in my heart and I hate to put this on it. end of the show, but something disturbing happened in Seattle. There’s a lineman, Chad Wheeler, who got his girlfriend. And being a Seattle Seahawk, I feel like our show never shies away from these tough topics and I didn’t want that right now. I know it probably takes you off guard, but I didn’t want to go there in three hours. Domestic violence is a small reflection of the NFL. There are more good guys than bad guys. It’s also a reflection of the We often say there is no room for that in the game We just always have to say that there is no room for that in society I just hope the Seattle authorities and the NFL get this right I hate this at the end of the show, but we went for three hours and didn’t speak. I just want to make sure we’re talking about domestic violence because it’s a problem. ”
For Burleson to mention Wheeler’s arrest without his colleagues or producers knowing he was going to do so took guts. And it shows why Burleson is a rising star in the sports media world. Not many people would risk anger the educated by doing rogue. Remember he did this on NFL Network.
I spoke to Burleson after the show and asked if he had gotten a backlash from his bosses for mentioning Wheeler’s arrest. “I got a call after the show,” Burleson said, “but no one said I shouldn’t have … They just said, ‘We don’t mind you taking that position. Just give us a heads up up so we can give you the right space to talk about it. “You know, we had a picture on the screen about the Senior Bowl when I brought it up. But no one said I shouldn’t have done it.”
Burleson added, “It was heavy on my heart. As I walked through the show, I thought, ‘We haven’t touched it yet and it’s been a few days.’ I wanted to make sure that we handle every situation like this the same way across the board. I don’t take domestic violence lightly. We talk about it in many forms.
“I didn’t want to stand in the stands or say that this man should be kicked out of the competition. This is not black versus white, old versus young, starter versus backup. It’s right versus wrong. “
2. If you’re a Warriors fan, you may want to send Steph Curry hate tweets during games.
Andrew Bogut unveiled on the Rogue Bogues podcast that Curry would check Twitter for motivation during halftime of games.
“Steph is one of the elite when it comes to race preparation,” said Bogut. “He’s one of the unique ones… he checks his half time entries when he’s got a bad half. It’s kind of the craziest sh– I’ve ever seen. When I first got into the league, Phones were kind of frowned upon in the locker room Now it’s a fucking show.
“If he had a bad half, he would go on social media and then come out 30.”
3. I don’t understand how many people still care about a museum that lost its credibility long ago.
More people have to be like former MLB pitcher Dan Haren, who was on the ballot, but um, was shy to get in. From the start of this trial, Haren, who was 153–131 with a 3.75 ERA for 13 seasons, has provided the commentary we all need.
4. JJ Watt appeared on Tuesday night Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. This wasn’t the setting where Watt would really open up about trade rumors involving himself and DeShaun Watson, but when Fallon asked how he handled all the speculation, Watt said he was going to Hawaii for a week after the season and wished he would stayed there.
