NFL Announces Compensatory Choices for 2021 Draft

The NFL has awarded compensatory draft picks to teams in the 2021 draft.

These picks will be awarded to the teams that suffered the greatest losses during the low season of 2020. This year, the NFL awarded 36 comp picks. The comp pick formula allocates picks that have suffered the greatest net losses, so teams that have signed multiple free agents are less likely to receive picks. The Cowboys top the list (shared below) with four highest selections.

There was a change to this year’s formula, with the NFL granting four choices to teams who saw one of their minority executives become head coaches or GMs. The 49ers, Rams, Ravens and Saints earned comp picks in the third round this year. They will receive additional third-rounders in 2022. The Rams added a third-rounder after the loss of the college scouting director. Brad Holmes (Lions GM); de Ravens lost the quarterbacks coach David Culley (Texans HC); the Saints lost assistant GM Terry Fontenot (Falcons GM). Loss of VP from player personnel Martin Mayhew (Washington GM) and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh (Jets HC), the 49ers will also get an additional third round in 2023.
