RÍO DE JANEIRO – A New Year’s celebration for 150 people, organized by Brazilian footballer Neymar, will be subject to “strict health rules” to prevent the spread of COVID-19, organizers said.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward has been heavily criticized since details of the event were revealed in a Rio de Janeiro newspaper last weekend.
But the agency that organized the party claimed that reports that 500 friends and celebrities had been invited were not true and that only 150 people would attend the multi-day party in Mangaratiba, 65 miles from Rio.
“The event will be held in accordance with all sanitary regulations set by public authorities,” the agency said. To work it is a statement.
“The event is private and all relevant permits have been obtained,” he added.
Mangaratiba local authorities were not available for comment. Neymar’s news agency did not respond to text messages.
Brazil records nearly 7.5 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, the third-highest number in the world, and 191,139 deaths, a number surpassed only by the United States, according to figures from the Department of Health.
