New York Giants are snooping for free agents they covet

The New York Giants have been relatively quiet since the opening of the NFL’s legal sabotage window on Monday, but it’s not because of a lack of trying.

Despite being in somewhat of a financial crisis, the Giants and general manager Dave Gettleman have aggressively tried to sign a select number of free agents. However, with the exception of Devontae Booker, who was arguably overpaid, and wide receiver John Ross, things haven’t gone well.

The Giants “went hard” after edge rusher Leonard Floyd, but he ended up again with the Los Angeles Rams. Ultimately, that decision came down to personal preference and he simply said no to the Giants.

Gettleman & Co. were also reportedly in the mix for tight Hunter Henry, who is an interesting target and possibly tipped a bit, before agreeing to the New England Patriots.

The Giants have also been banned from the top-tier wide receiver market, although that may be more down to design. The movement on many of those free agents is slow and the market doesn’t seem to meet demand.

Regardless, it is worrying that the Giants are being passed over by players who desire them. They expected better recruiting this year under head coach Joe Judge and with players like security Logan Ryan in tow, but things didn’t turn out the way they’d hoped.
