New Vegas mod The Frontier is finally out

A mod year in the making, just launched last Friday, and it was a launch so big that it took Nexus Mods. Fallout: The Frontier is essentially a new game, built on Fallout: New Vegas.

The border kicked around several years, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a lot more ambitious than some of the new quests and characters; The border is set in Portland, Oregon, and is a new map that’s approx same size such as New Vegas‘s Mojave and almost as big as Fallout 3.

According to the mods Nexus Mods page, The border has three main questlines – in line with the New California Republic, the Northern Legion, or the Crusaders of Steel – and over 60 side quests, as well as new items and additions to your Courier’s arsenal. There are also “tens of thousands” of new voiced dialogues. Oh, and you can drive tanks, vertibirds and cars.

Anecdotally, it seems there has been a bit of a resurgence of it Fallout: New Vegas in gaming in general. Seriously, the number of people who independently told me they were reinstalled New Vegas during this last vacation was a bit dizzying.

All that is to say, it makes sense that between the anticipation before The border‘s launch and renewed love for it New Vegas, the actual launch of the mod brought in quite a bit of traffic. When it went live last Friday, downloaders hammered the servers from popular mod hosting site Nexus Mods. The next day, the Border team thanked everyone who helped ‘crash Nexus’ and all those who provide support and thanks in the first 24 hours it’s live.

Fortunately, things are back to normal and the mod is now ready for full download Nexus modes. There also is a Steam page in the works, for those who panic a bit through the modding process before Fallout: New Vegasalthough no date has been set yet. There are also helpful guides for potential new modders to pick up The border, so don’t be too scared of the process. It’s still a bit of work, but compared to the old days of modding, it’s a much smoother process.
