New Red Dead Redemption 2 leak may contain GTA 6 clue

A new Red Dead Redemption 2 leak can be a big indicator of the setting of GTA 6, the next item in the Grand Theft Auto series that Rockstar Games hasn’t announced yet, but is believed to be in development for PS5, Xbox Series X and possibly PC as well. On the GTA forums, a data miner revealed some interesting bits of code they recently discovered while combing through the files of Red Dead Redemption 2. More specifically, they found files for various weapons that are not just not included Red Dead Redemption 2, but are not even suitable for the open-world western, which mainly takes place in 1899. At first glance, you would assume that these are leftover files from GTA 5, and this can be the case, but there is also a case for which these can be GTA 6, and shows when the game can be played.

On the GTA forums, user and dataminer “DerekLeet” noted that there are several files for weapons that weren’t there in 1899, but are also not modern weapons, seemingly excluding them from being intended for GTA 5 and GTA Online.

The first of these weapons is the Browning pistol, while the second is the L1AL rifle. The AK47 was also found in the files of Red Dead Redemption 2, but unlike the other two, these could very well be files left over from GTA 5. That said, the AK47 has a different name in the GTA 5 files then here in the Red Dead Redemption 2 files, which casts doubt on whether it is left over from the 2013 game.

However, there is a curveball: these files have been in the game since launch. This of course begs the question: why would Rockstar use Games Red Dead Redemption 2 before releasing to test weapons GTA 6?

Unfortunately, this new leak is raising more questions than it answers at this point. That said, given that all of the above weapons were all used in the 1900s, particularly the second half of the century, this could reinforce the rumors, reports, and leaks that claim GTA 6 is set in 1980s Vice City.

At the time of publication, Rockstar Games has not commented on this leak in any capacity, and it is very unlikely that this will change. If so, we will be sure to update the story with whatever is provided. In the meantime, take everything with a good grain of salt.
