METAIRIE, La. – The New Orleans Saints have agreed to a two-year deal with special teams that stand out and backup security JT Gray, a confirmed source.
Gray, who was named Second Team All Pro in 2019, was scheduled to become a restricted free agent after signing as a non-drafted free agent from Mississippi state in 2018. News of his deal was first reported by NFL Network.
The Saints’ special teams have been a big part of their success during their current streak of four consecutive NFC South titles. But many of their key special teams players this year are unrestricted free agents, including Craig Robertson, Justin Hardee and Dwayne Washington.
The Saints will be severely limited this year by the NFL’s lowered salary ceiling. They are expected to release $ 60-70 million in cap space over the next two weeks by doing player releases, contract restructuring and renewals, among other things.
