New Mayor of Aguadilla orders municipal control

The mayor of Aguadilla, Julio Roldán, today, during the official swearing-in ceremony, signed a contract to start a municipal audit. As he said, so that “Aguadillans know where the congregation is spending the money and where the congregation efforts are headed.”

“One of my programmatic commitments, when I was running, was to develop a Transparency and Anti-Corruption Plan. One of the most important parts of this plan is to audit the contracts awarded over the past 10 years and to make all information about the management and government spending of each agency in the mayor’s office accessible to the public, so that everyone is aware of the fiscal reality of the municipality, ”says Roldán.

During his inauguration, he stressed that he will share the city’s economic and fiscal situation with the citizens. “The city council is in a serious fiscal and social state. Aguadilla has a high unemployment rate and municipal debt that is out of proportion. The latest government has spent more than the legal 50% and the tax treasury has an income deficit of $ 4 million, ”he added.

“I fully understand the mandate that the people carried out last November. This mandate was clear not only in Aguadilla, but throughout Puerto Rico. For this reason, before I was sworn in, I have already started working with fellow members of all parties, traditional and emerging. We all have different voices in our opinions and ideologies, but we are united by our desire to serve our people, ”he said.
