One of these is a new FEMA site at the Esperanza Community Center in Hunting Park, one of the neighborhoods most affected by COVID-19.
Patients like Samuel Barios say they are relieved to have a clinic near them.
“Lack of transportation for people, it’s difficult for them to get to remote locations, they don’t have cars,” he said.
The site will inject about 2,000 people a day into a neighborhood with one of the lowest vaccination rates.
Officials say only about 16% of the city’s Spanish population has been vaccinated.
“It’s great for the neighborhood, yes,” said Barios.
In Marple Township, rows of cars wrapped around Delaware County Community College. A new clinic there hopes to vaccinate 12,000 people with Johnson & Johnson this weekend.
‘I wanted to take everything I could get. I’ve been trying to get it for a while, ”Derrick Edwards said.
The site is by appointment only and for the first weekend only accessible to those in phase 1a and 1b.
The province says that as more vaccines become available, people will have more flexibility in making appointments.
“People can go online and choose which site and which vaccine they want to receive. If they want more security in their schedule, they can sign up at one of our regular locations, or they can sign up here for a while. come up on the weekend, ”said Howard Lazarus, Delaware County’s executive director.
The province hopes to vaccinate 140,000 people before the summer.
“I have a lot of extenuating circumstances, so I wanted to get it out of the way to protect myself and my family,” said Onley’s Crystal White.
She says she will get the photo in the hope that life will return to normal soon.
“I’m hopeful,” she added.
About a third of Philadelphiaians are currently vaccinated.
On Monday, the city will move to phase 1C, allowing even more people to qualify for their shots.
