New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declares a state of emergency over winter storm, vaccine megasites shut Monday

TRENTON, New Jersey (WPVI) – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has declared a state of emergency over the winter storm.

The state of emergency went into effect at 7 p.m.

Officials are urging residents to stay off the road.

“It’s awful! Yeah, it’s not too safe there right now,” said LaToya Taylor of Trenton.

Snow plows were hard at work in Ewing Township on Sunday evening.

“It’s still safe to travel, but if you don’t have to, we recommend that you don’t be outside,” said Earl Peters of Mercer County DOT.

In Trenton, roads and sidewalks were covered in snow as people headed for the Transit Center.

All NJ Transit buses, rail (except Atlantic City Rail Line), light rail and Access Link service will be temporarily suspended for the entire service day on Monday, February 1, due to the expected significant impact of the snowstorm.

“Heavy snow, coastal flooding and strong winds are expected in many parts of the state,” said Governor Murphy. “The safety of residents and workers is our top priority. Follow all weather-related guidelines and stay off the road to allow access for emergency responders.”

In Cherry Hill, Action News found some residents trying to beat the storm by picking up some last-minute supplies.

“We’re going to look for rock salt while we’re there,” said Walt Hoyer of Maple Shade.

Governor Murphy says all six mega sites will be closed Monday due to the winter storm.
All appointments are rescheduled within a week.

The Vaccine Call Center remains open to reschedule current appointments for the first and second dose: 855-568-0545.
