New Jersey declares a storm of emergency | Univision 41 New York WXTV

Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency that began at 7 p.m. on Sunday. State offices are closed on Mondays.

In addition, the bus service from NJ TRANSIT, rail (except Atlantic City rail line), light rail and Access Link services will be temporarily discontinued all Monday.

All six vaccination “mega sites” are closed Monday and all appointments are rescheduled for the week.

The Immunization Call Center remains open to reschedule current appointments for the first and second dose. You can access it by calling 855-568-0545.

Travel restriction

All drivers are advised to stay off the road, especially on Sunday evenings and Mondays.

The travel restriction began at noon on Sunday afternoon and will apply to the following highways in both directions:

  • I-76, from the Walt Whitman Bridge (Pennsylvania border) to NJ Route 42
  • I-78, from the Pennsylvania border to I-95 (New Jersey Turnpike)
  • I-80, from the Pennsylvania border to I-95 (New Jersey Turnpike)
  • I-195, from I-295 to NJ Route 138
  • I-280, from I-80 to I-95 (New Jersey Turnpike)
  • I-287, from New Jersey Route 440 to the New York State border
  • I-295, from the Delaware Memorial Bridge to the Scudders Falls Bridge (Pennsylvania border)
  • I-676, from Benjamin Franklin Bridge (Pennsylvania border) to I-76
  • NJ Route 440, from Outerbridge Junction to I-287

The restriction on the movement of commercial vehicles applies to:

  • All tractor-trailers (exceptions are listed in administrative order)
  • Empty straight trucks with CDL weight
  • Passenger cars towing trailers
  • Recreational vehicles
  • Motorcycles

The restriction does NOT apply to:

  • New Jersey Turnpike
  • Garden State Parkway
  • Atlantic City Expressway

Trucks already in New Jersey are encouraged to pull off the road and park at truck stops to wait for the storm to pass, and NOT park along the road.
If driving on the roads is necessary, it is recommended:

  • Leave early and take extra time for the journey
  • Make sure your car has a full tank
  • Reduce the speed and respect the speed limits
  • Leave a safe distance between vehicles
  • Be careful on bridges and ramps
  • Always stay away from cleaning and recreational trucks. If they are behind you, let them pass
