New Ideas militants reject Will Salgado and support Miguel Pereira, of the FMLN | News from El Salvador

In San Miguel this morning the spotlight on the political competition for the edilicia chair focused on an event of a group of people who presented themselves as new ideas but who support the current mayor of the FMLN, Miguel Pereira.

This morning, a group of people who identified themselves as the base of the New Ideas (NI) party showed their support for the re-election of Mayor Miguel Pereira, who is running the FMLN flag. In addition, they showed their rejection of the candidacy of Will Salgado, who is running for the official alliance of GANA and New Ideas.

The militants who attended the event stated that they support Pereira, but not the FMLN.

In turn, Nuevas Ideas president Xavi Zablah Bukele criticized the event on social media, stating that Pereira is using the Nuevas Ideas logo to bolster his campaign.

The mayor came forward with these statements, saying it is not his fault that “the New Ideas armed forces support us in the San Miguel community.”

At this event, held in a restaurant in San Miguel, NI militants backed their support for Pereira, but backed the candidates for deputation in the department presented by Nuevas Ideas.

Salgado, a candidate for the ruling alliance and mayor of San Miguel for 15 years, denied that they were representatives of the New Ideas party.

“That’s not true. At that event there were veterans and community leaders from the FMLN and some from the armed forces. There was no one from New Ideas,” he said.

He also added that Pereira “could commit an electoral crime because he used the flag, logo and name of a party to which he does not belong. He wanted to defraud the Miguan voters by showing support that does not exist”.

However, Pereira claims he was a guest at the event, saying that those who used the Nueva Ideas logos are that party’s militants and affiliates.

“It is an event of theirs they held to make a decision to support Miguel Pereira, they also stated that they are going for delegates with new ideas and that they will continue to support the president of the republic, but that for Mayor Will not him, and they support Miguel Pereira, ”said the city’s current mayor.
