New Bungie game first reveals important details

Even though Bungie is (currently) best known for his work on Destiny 2, the studio is currently secretly toiling on another project. And while it could literally take years for the company to be ready to reveal what that new game could be, it looks like some of the first details about the upcoming title have finally emerged in a rather cumbersome way.

Bungie’s career page recently posted a job opening for an Incubation Multiplayer Systems Designer at the company. While this may not seem like a big deal at first glance, the description of the role is where things get interesting. The studio says it is looking for a candidate with a background in PvP multiplayer games, to be precise. The post goes on to emphasize that additional familiarity with esports is also a required skill for the person eventually hired. In addition, experience working on a live game on “multiple platforms” would also be required.

While there isn’t much more to get out of this vacancy, we can very well conclude that everything Bungie is working on next will have an important multiplayer element. although Destiny 2 does include PvP multiplayer, the game has never been one really known for this aspect. Plus, it has never been a title that people would consider in the least an esport.

It’s quite exciting to see Bungie back at work on a new game with an essential multiplayer component, given the history of the studio in space. While it no longer works in the Halo franchise, Bungie revolutionized the multiplayer first-person shooter genre with his work on the series more than a decade ago. If it could somehow recapture that same magic with new premises, you should imagine there would be a lot of fans on board. Still, it will probably be quite some time before we finally see what this new IP address is, so let’s not get too carried away.

What do you hope Bungie will do next? Let me know in the comments or give me a call on Twitter @MooreMeer to give me your thoughts.
