New Braunfels Utilities officials say they plan to make a “ one-time adjustment ” to all customer accounts after a winter storm

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas New Braunfels Utilities officials announced on Sunday that they plan to make a “one-time adjustment” to all customer accounts after the winter storm.

According to a statement from the utility group, both residential and commercial bills will be adjusted once to help customers who may have higher bills due to freeze-related leaks or unusually high usage for faucet leaks to avoid property damage.

“Our customers have endured unimaginable hardships as a result of these extreme weather events,” Ian Taylor, NBU CEO, said in a statement. “We understand their concerns and are committed to doing everything we can to help our community by reducing the impact of their next bill.”

According to Taylor, the financial impact of the winter storm on New Braunfels’ customers has not yet been “fully calculated,” but could be significant.

The utility said it had experienced an unusually sharp increase in fuel costs and the storm’s impact will continue “for the foreseeable future.”

While fuel costs are normally passed on to customers, NBU is aiming for “any financing tool within our ability to spread the financial impact over years,” the utility group said in a statement. “Spreading costs, if approved, will minimize the impact on customer affordability, which is important as everyone in our community and beyond has already been through a very difficult time.”

In addition, the group said it also provides assistance with bills and payment plans to help those struggling to pay their bills.
