New Batwoman star Javicia Leslie revealed if she’s been talking to Ruby Rose since she picked up the robe. When the move was announced, many fans were concerned that the former star’s departure would be the end of the show. Rose decided to pursue other opportunities after the season 1 wrap. But Leslie was revealed as her replacement, and it immediately stabilized faith among the fan base. In a conversation with Variety, the star explained that she had not spoken to the former Batwoman yet. It seems that that stems from the fact that the character is now a completely different woman. Kate Kane and Ryan Wilder are fascinatingly different in a number of ways. According to Leslie, the writing of the new season accentuates that in ways you don’t need to reinforce by trying to play with what Rose did in the previous season.
“The writers and showrunner have already done a great job there, so I didn’t have to deliberately try to be different,” explained Leslie. “The writing allowed this character to stand out on its own and, of course, we are two different individuals, so my natural energy going into it will already be different. I think my only job is to show up and have fun and play in the storyline that has already been created. “
The Batwoman star has been singing about how much she looks forward to introducing fans to Ryan. During DC FanDome’s last ear, she explained a bit more about the perspective shift towards Season 2. The actress also admits that being part of the larger Arrowverse moving forward is truly a dream.
“Batwoman already stands out because she doesn’t have superpower,” Leslie said. “All she uses is her intelligence and Luke [Fox] and its physical strength. So I’m looking forward to playing that role from Ryan’s perspective, this street kid’s perspective. From a person who saw these superheroes grow up. Because that was also very important for Ryan to see Batwoman being a lesbian, to look at her role model as a superhero. So not only to fill those shoes, but also to [be] with those who have already done it, I think that’s going to be a lot for her. It will be a culture shock for her, but I think it is really cool. “
