Good housekeeping

Special Agent Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano) is missing now and NCIS fans get nervous.

As viewers saw in Season 18’s latest episode, Tobias takes a job at a fast-food restaurant to disguise his identity in an effort to track down the linchpin of an ongoing opioid trade. At the end of the episode, when Gibbs (Mark Harmon) goes to check in with Tobias, he learns that Tobias hasn’t turned up for work for two days.

Of course, the mysterious disappearance of Tobias is pit NCIS fans on edge. But what really makes them panic is they know that there will be no new episode NCIS airs tonight or throughout 2020.

When will NCIS return to CBS for the rest of season 18?

According to Newsweek, the fourth installment of NCIS season 18 will be broadcast on Tuesday January 5, 2021. In other words, fans will have to wait patiently until after the holidays to find out what’s happening to Tobias.

Fans aren’t thrilled with this news, of course, especially since the show had just returned on November 17 after the coronavirus pandemic forced the network to extend the season 18 premiere date.

“I can’t believe the show won’t be back until January 5, 2021. How crazy is this, why didn’t you wait until January? CBS you are [sic.] winter break is a joke, “a fan tweeted. Another noticed, “Something happened to Fornell and now we have to wait until next year to find out what ?! I can’t wait!” “So you just leave us with that cliffhanger,” another noticed.

It is of course not uncommon for this NCIS and other major networking shows that go on at this time of the year. The big difference, however, is that due to filming delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, CBS only aired three episodes before the fall finale. In recent years, the network has aired about nine or ten episodes.

So, what does this mean for the rest of NCIS season 18? Unfortunately, fans will all have to accept a shorter season. In late October, Deadline reported that CBS had cut its episode order for the fall 2020-2021 calendar from 22 episodes to 16 for NCIS. Other CBS shows such as Blue blood, Taurus, The neighbourhood, SEAL team, and Magnum PI also have fewer episodes, ranging from 16 to 18 episodes per season.

At this point, we can only hope that Tobias is found as soon as possible NCIS returns in January and that the show’s writers aren’t introducing another painful cliffhanger in the season finale. But again … it is NCIS.
