NCAA to allow limited fans for Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament

The NCAA will allow a limited number of fans into each round of this year’s NCAA men’s tournament, it announced Friday.

Up to 25% capacity with physical distance is allowed on all rounds, including the Final Four, a decision made in conjunction with state and local health authorities in Indiana. The 25% includes all participants, staff and family members, as well as fans. Masks and physical distance are required.

“We will continue to use the knowledge we have gained throughout the season on how to play games in a safe environment,” NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a statement.

The entire tournament takes place in and around Indianapolis. The teams will be staying in hotels around the Indiana Convention Center, which will be used as a practice facility.

“This year’s tournament will look like no other, and while we know it won’t be the same for everyone, we look forward to providing the student athletes, coaches and fans with an unforgettable lifetime tournament,” said NCAA senior vice president of basketball Dan Gavitt. “Following the cancellation of the 2020 tournament, we are delighted to welcome a number of fans back to all rounds of the Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament.”

The Final Four will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium, with previous rounds at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indiana Farmers Coliseum, plus Mackey Arena in West Lafayette and Assembly Hall in Bloomington.

The Assembly Hall will allow 500 spectators to attend the games being held there, Indiana University said.

Selection Day is scheduled for March 14, with the Final Four on April 3-5.
