Raleigh, NC – A recently released map from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows how states are doing in the distribution of vaccines.
The interactive map keeps track of two things: the number of people who received their first dose and the number of vaccinations provided – the number of vaccines sent.
Nationwide, more than 4.5 million people have received the first round of vaccination. There are still 11 million doses that have not yet been used.
As of January 4, seven states, including North Carolina, are depicted in a light blue. These are the states that vaccinated fewer than 1,000 people in 100,000.
The North Carolina rate – 966 people per 100,000. That’s less than just five other states in the country.
West Virginia’s rate is more than triple that of North Carolina.
Vaccine distribution rate for our state is not much better, still in light blue and ranked among the 10th lowest for vaccines distributed so far.
Looking at the percentage of vaccinations dispensed versus those administered, North Carolina spent only 25.5%, not much lower than the country, which is 29.5%.
