Navy medic shoots 2 people, is then shot and killed at the Maryland base

A US Navy medic shot dead two people on Tuesday at a business park in Frederick, Maryland, authorities said. The suspected gunman, 38-year-old Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet, was later shot and killed at Fort Detrick.

The shooter entered a company in Riverside Tech Park, allowing people to enter to safety, police chief Jason Lando told reporters on Tuesday. After that shooting, he said, the suspect drove about 10 minutes to Fort Detrick, where he was murdered by military personnel.

“The public is no longer at risk,” said Lando. “There is no longer any cause for alarm in the Frederick community.”

The police received a summons on Tuesday morning for an active shooter on the business park. When officers arrived, they discovered that two adult men had been shot and were in critical condition. The victims were taken to a nearby hospital for air treatment.

The FBI, ATF Baltimore, and Maryland State Police are assisting the investigation.
