One of the men accused of committing the attempted murder of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny inadvertently disclosed the plot in a stunning piece of deception by Navalny himself. According to Bellingcat, a member of the alleged FSB poison squad described the murder plot during a telephone conversation with a man who he said was a leading security officer, but was actually Navalny. During a call recording, Konstantin Kudryavtsev describes how his team carried out the plot and how they tried to clean up the evidence of it. Most dramatically, the agent describes how the nerve gas that poisoned Navalny was applied to a pair of his underwear. Navalny asked, “What piece of cloth were you focusing on?” Kudryavtsev replied, “The underpants.” After Navalny asked for more details where exactly on the underwear had the nerve agent applied, Kudryavstev replied, “Well, the cross, as they call it.”
