Myanmar suffers even more bloodshed after the coup in February

A young man was shot dead in Yangon, Myanmar, in a protest against the Feb. 1 coup that overthrew the elected government led by Aung San Suu Kyi, reports said.

The number of deaths rose to 238, the activist group of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners reported.

The violence comes amid widespread domestic outrage and international condemnation after the country’s government was overthrown in a coup led by Senior General Min Aunt Hlaing, commander in chief of Myanmar’s armed forces.

Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1991 who was elected in 2011, is still held by the junta.

The State Department has granted temporary protected status to the approximately 1,600 Myanmar residents living in the United States.
