MVC is against the use of EEG funds for special election educational campaigns

The election commissioner of the Citizen Victory Movement (MVC), Olvin Valentín, today announced his opposition to the State Election Commission (CEE) using the entity’s operational funds to support the educational campaign on the election of state lobbyists in Washington DC, United States.

Following an electronic referendum between the five election commissioners in connection with the educational campaign on the special election (Law 167-2020) known as the “Law Establishing the Puerto Rico Congressional Delegation”. The President of the EEC, Francisco J. Rosado Colomer, has decided that the agency’s operational funds will be used for these purposes, even when the MVC, the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) and the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) oppose to resist determination.

“This is an election to elect delegates who will lobby, not in favor of a clean and open process of self-determination, but to impose a state on Puerto Rico without regard to the decolonizing options that may be on the table. In addition, we are going to use funds to be paid to run the agency to educate about an election that we know will not ultimately solve Puerto Rico’s status problem, ”said the MVC commissioner.

Despite this, the Chairman of the CEE has classified the views of the MVC, PIP and the PPD as having no legal basis and therefore determined that while the agency does not have the resources to conduct an educational campaign on the process, the campaign will be conducted jeopardizing the fiscal viability of the whole agency.
