The Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and the Ford Mustang Bullitt, two of the most distinctive versions in the pony car lineup, have officially ended production. That confirmed a Ford spokesman Ford Authority on Sunday, both cars were put in the field “late last year”, although the exact dates did not share.
This news comes as no surprise. Ford already confirmed the GT350’s demise in October 2020, presumably to make way at the top of the Mustang lineup for the more powerful, more capable Shelby GT500. And with the arrival of the Mach 1, the Bullitt became obsolete.
Still, we are going to miss these cars. The GT350 was a return to track dominance for the Shelby name, with an excellent chassis and a stunning 526 horsepower flat crank V-8 engine capable of spinning up to 8,250 rpm. And employee Matt Farah called the Bullitt, a tribute to the 1968 movie of the same name, a car that “doesn’t take nostalgia to be great.”
With the next-generation Mustang just around the corner, we don’t expect the GT350 name to stay dead for long. It will likely return in a similar capacity ready for the track, although it’s unclear at this point if that gorgeous 5.2-liter Voodoo engine will join it. Time will tell.
