Municipalities with high transmission of COVID-19 increase to 64

The Health Department released the weekly report on the transmission of COVID-19 by the community in Puerto Rico this afternoon, revealing that 64 municipalities on the island have a high level of COVID-19 transmission.

This figure indicates an increase of 26 cities compared to the cities reported last week.

The municipalities in red level of the infections are: Aguadilla, Aguas Buenas, Aibonito, Arecibo, Arroyo, Barranquitas, Bayamón, Cabo Rojo, Caguas, Camuy, Canóvanas, Carolina, Cataño, Cayey, Ceiba, Ciales, Cidra, Comerío, Corozal, Culebra, Florida, Guayanilla , Guaynabo, Gurabo, Guánica, Hatillo, Hormigueros, Humacao, Isabela, Jayuya, Juana Díaz, Juncos, Lajas, Lares, Las Marías, Las Piedras, Loíza, Luquillo, Maricao, Maunabo, Mayagüez, Moca, Morovis, Naguabroco, Narovis, Patillas, Quebradillas, Rincón, Río Grande, Sabana Grande, Salinas, San Juan, San Lorenzo, San Sebastián, Santa Isabel, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Trujillo Alto, Utuado, Vega Alta, Vega Baja, Villalba and Yauco.

None of the schools on the island can teach in person, as ordered by Health last week. The return to the schools’ virtual classes took effect on Monday, April 12, and was scheduled to take two weeks.

On the other hand, there is 12 municipalities with substantial transmission. These are: Adjuntas, Aguada, Añasco, Barceloneta, Dorado, Fajardo, Guayama, Manatí, Peñuelas, Ponce, San Germán and Yabucoa.

Of the rest of the cities, Coamo can be found in moderate transmission level Y Vieques at a low transmission level.

According to the health report, there are currently 181.01 active cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents in Puerto Rico.

The positivity rate continues to grow and stands at 15.75% today, on a day when the agency reported 827 additional confirmed cases of COVID and 265 likely.

The deaths reported today were an additional 12, bringing Puerto Rico a cumulative total number of deaths from the virus of 2,174.
