MSNBC, Broadcast Networks Skip Latest Cuomo Turmoil As New York Health Officials Flee Administration

Much of the mainstream media continues to downplay the growing unrest plaguing New York’s Democratic government Andrew Cuomo.

Just days after New York Attorney General Letitia James published a report claiming that the State Department of Health may have reported up to 50 percent too few coronavirus deaths in nursing homes, The New York Times reported that nine of Cuomo’s top health officials are his administration fled. in recent months about apparent clashes with the outspoken governor.

However, the latest Albany drama was not reported on MSNBC or on the three broadcasting networks on Monday.

While CNN raised the Cuomo controversy twice during the day, none of the most watched primetime shows, including “Cuomo Prime Time” hosted by the governor’s brother, bothered to write about it.

Last week, the news networks similarly downplayed AG James’ stunning report of coronavirus deaths in nursing homes in New York. ABC completely avoided the controversy on the air, while CNN and MSNBC provided minimal coverage during the daytime programming and skipped coverage entirely during primetime.

NBC’s “Nightly News” spent the most time on the topic on Thursday night clocking in at 86 seconds, CBS “Evening News” spent a short 10 seconds on a longer coronavirus report that didn’t even mention Cuomo by name.

In the early months of the pandemic, the media was largely amazed at Cuomo’s “leadership,” despite his controversial nursing home policies in which he imposed assisted living facilities to admit COVID patients from overcrowded hospitals. Critics point to Cuomo’s fateful policies as responsible for the deaths of thousands of elderly New Yorkers.
