MSC Lirica extinguished fire, minimal damage – Cruise Industry News

Lirica fire extinguished

The fire on board the MSC Lirica, which started in a lifeboat, was completely extinguished on Friday evening, with no injuries to the 51 crew members on board, according to a statement from MSC Cruises.

MSC Lirica reported a fire incident at the MSC Maritime Support Center in London, UK, at 3:42 p.m. local time in Corfu, where she is currently warm, according to the cruise line.

The fire originated from one of the fiberglass lifeboats on the ship’s starboard side on deck 6, the company said, quickly bringing the fire under control thanks to the intervention of the ship’s two fire departments and the support of local emergency services.

The incident operation was declared complete at 6:58 PM local time.

There were no injuries among the 51 crew members on board at the time of the incident.

According to a preliminary assessment, there was “no damage to the inside of the ship, but only to her side from the flames and dense black smoke caused by the fiberglass lifeboats,” said MSC.

A full investigation is now underway.
