A Turkish mother saved her four children from a flat fire in Istanbul by throwing them out a third-floor window, heartbreaking video shows.
The incident took place Wednesday in a five-story building in the Esenler neighborhood, located on the European side of Istanbul.

In a video shot from the street below, you can see the mother drop each child out of the window while a cloud of black smoke streams through the opening. Under the window, community members can be seen stretching out a blanket to accommodate the children.
A neighbor who witnessed the incident described the scene to the Turkish pro-government newspaper Daily Sabah.

“At first black smoke started to come out,” said the neighbor. Then the kids started shouting from the windows. And we opened the covers. A woman threw the children down from above. So we took four children with blankets. ‘
Local authorities told the outlet that all four children were safe and in good working order. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.
