New year, new games, baybeee! This is going to be an interesting year as we see the Playstation 4 and Xbox One fade into the sunset and hopefully the new generation come to the fore. There aren’t an incredible amount of next-generation (current-generation?) Exclusive products out there right now, but 2021 looks set to fix that with some potential bangers.

Just because I don’t have a PS5 yet doesn’t mean I can’t be hype about games I’m going to or won’t be playing, provided the console is available!

Halo: infinite

I should preface this by saying that while I am anticipating this game, it is more wary, “Boy, I really hope this game isn’t bad”. I enjoyed the Halo series since I was a kid. In many ways, it was the series I grew up with. What Mario and all those 16-bit bangers meant for the generation before me is how I feel Halo. It introduced me to first-person shooters, military sci-fi, and online gaming. Those are all things that I still love today.

So you can imagine that somehow I felt Halo 5: Guardians just didn’t hit straight up. It’s the only one Halo game that I still haven’t quite played. I know I was not alone in thinking this Halo 5 basically had no stamina on his release.

I hope Endlessly rights the ship and brings some respect back to the Halo name. Considering the lengthy development of the game, underwhelming show at last summer’s Xbox Series X event, and the yearlong delay due to that display, it looks a bit questionable if the game will do that. You may be wondering, given all the issues and caveats, why is it on my list?

Well I just love Halo, you all.

The possibility of a good Halo game will always be something I expect. Plus, since this is the franchise’s 20th anniversary, I’m really doing everything I can to keep the 343 Industries team going and deliver a good space shooter.

GTA VI …just mess around, we know it will never come out. Do you know which game is likely to do that?

Final Fantasy XVI

If you like any of the game articles about The carrot, then this entry shouldn’t come as a surprise.

What can I say? I’m anime trash, and I own that shit. Not much has been revealed about what kind of game Final Fantasy XVI actually is, but if I were a gambler I would say it appears to be the third Massively Multiplayer Online game in the franchise, after FF XI and FF XIV: A Realm Reborn (If someone speaks in the comments about “Well, actually Final Fantasy XIV was technically the second- “on all things sacred, I’ll be kidding you. We don’t recognize that game in this space.)

The trailer released at the PS5 event last summer promised a full-scale epic, with an art style reminiscent of FF XIV: A Realm Reborn, and the play even shares the same director. A cursory look at the game’s official site also gives the idea that the game will be a multi-faction MMO.

While I enjoyed what I played FF XIV: A Realm Reborn, there was just so much content that by the time I could actually play it, I felt like I could never keep up. Whether it is an MMO or a streetProgressive action role-playing game, looking forward to diving into the world of Valisthea later this year.

Deathloop

As soon as I saw the trailer for this game, I knew I was in. It basically has everything I ask for in a game. Unique gameplay mechanics? To check. An art style that catches the eye and never lets go? To check. A developer with a track record of making bangers? Check, check and check. Oh, and it has a black protagonist? Shietttt, nigga, you don’t have to tell me twice.

Deathloop cast as an assassin who discovers he’s trapped in a time loop on a mysterious island. You have to kill eight targets in the course of a loop or the loop will reset. The game also features a multiplayer component that puts another player in control of an assassin who wants to protect the loop and is assigned to kill you to prevent the player from breaking it.

Developer Arkane Studios has been killing it in recent years Prey and the Dishonored series, so I’m really curious where they are going with this title.

While these are just three games, the list can be long. Honorable mentions go to Horizon: Forbidden West, No More Heroes III, and Shin Megami Tensei 5. Are there any games you are looking forward to that I may have missed? Drop them below! Provided they are not delayed, 2021 looks like there are some bangers at hand-and I can’t wait.
