According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, more than 80 counties in Illinois have expanded eligibility for the COVID vaccine to state residents 16 and older.
Citing a survey of local health departments in the state, IDPH released a list of counties that already expanded a week before the state would do the same. There are a total of 102 counties in the state.
The state had previously authorized a local health department ‘that saw early signs of unfulfilled appointments to vaccinate all residents 16 and older at their discretion, to use their vaccine as soon as possible, and an increase in new COVID-19 cases reduce, ‘said IDPH.
As of April 12, eligibility is expected to increase statewide for all residents 16 and older, although it remains unclear whether Chicago will join the rest of the state in that.

According to IDPH, the expansion means that all state-sponsored mass vaccination sites, local health departments and pharmacy partners who receive a vaccine from the state grant “will be mandated to be fully eligible.”
