Monroe woman accidentally got saline instead of COVID-19 vaccine :: WRAL.com

– Lisa Strawn has many questions after she said she and her husband walked into the Walgreens on Fincher Street in Monroe on March 20 and received what they thought was the Pfizer vaccine.

“At about 5:30 they called us and told us to come back the next day, that there was some misunderstanding with our shot,” she said. “You wonder how that could happen?”

Strawn was told that the pharmacist had forgotten to mix the vaccine and that they had only been given a saline solution.

“My question was, ‘Well, what if we got the real Pfizer, you know, without it getting diluted?’ And I never really got an answer to that, ”she said.

It is still unclear how many people got the wrong injection.

“There were several people they had to call because there was a big pile of papers,” Strawn said. “And I asked the man, I said, ‘How did you find out we only got saline?'”

Strawn said the employee she spoke to said there was too much vaccine left at the end of the day, and then they realized something hadn’t been done right.

In a statement, Walgreens said it had contacted people affected and rescheduled their dose, adding, “We are investigating what happened and immediately took steps to review our procedures with the site to prevent that this will happen again. “

“I just thought it was important for people to know, be careful,” Strawn said. “You know, look behind them.”
