The FDA advisory committee reviewing the new Moderna vaccine has noted a specific side effect involving several subjects who have cosmetic facial fillers.

Dr. Shirley Chi, a board-certified dermatologist, explains what the FDA committee noted.

“In these cases, the patients all had swelling and inflammation in the area that received the filler. A few patients had cheek filler six months prior to their vaccination and one patient received lip filler two days after the vaccine. All were treated with steroids and anti-inflammatory drugs. -histamines and all their reactions disappeared, ”she said.

Millions of people have administered cosmetic facial fillers to a doctor to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles and strengthen cheeks and lips. Chi says the response to the vaccine is immunological.

“Your immune system that causes inflammation is fired up when you get a vaccine, that’s how it should work. So it makes sense to see an immune response in certain areas where they see a substance that doesn’t naturally occur in your body,” says Chi. .

Chi also says you shouldn’t let this prevent you from getting the vaccine when it’s your turn, and that any reactions from the derma fillers could easily be handled by medical staff.
