Modern Warfare’s Double XP tokens no longer work in Call of Duty: Warzone

When you’ve played enough Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or War zone, you’ve probably unlocked at least a few duplicate XP tokens, or 2XP tokens as the game calls them. These were usually available in the Season Battle Passes of the games in which they shared progress. These tokens used to give double rewards for periods like 15 minutes, 30 minutes or even up to an hour. However, after Wednesday’s Season 1 update, none of these tokens will work War zone Lake.

When War zone players logged into the game after the update went live, many were surprised to see the 2XP tokens they collected from previous seasons had simply disappeared from their menus. It turns out that the tokens weren’t technically gone, they’re only usable in Modern warfare now, but not indoors War zone. Players were not satisfied.

As one player points out, these XP tokens were actually content included in the premium versions of the War zone and Modern warfare battle passes, meaning people paid to get them. Now their functionality is limited to exclusively Modern warfare‘s multiplayer mode, a game that some War zone players might not even own it.

The likely reason these were disabled is that the new Season Update also added new levels for players to get and new weapons for them to upgrade – which would have been affected by the 2XP tokens. Which might have progressed a little faster to earn than Treyarch and Activision originally intended.

Of course, the fact that the old tokens no longer work doesn’t mean that there are no tokens at all. Instead, Treyarch has introduced its own 2XP tokens available to earn (or buy) in the new Black Ops Cold War/War zone season 1 battle pass. Don’t forget to use them during the Black Ops Cold War seasons so they don’t suddenly get trapped behind a game you don’t own when the next game arrives in the series.
