MLB could move the All-Star game out of Georgia after controversial new voter restrictions

The 91st Major League Baseball All-Star Game, scheduled for July, could be moved out of Atlanta after the Republican-controlled state house in Georgia passed a controversial overhaul of the ballot on Thursday.

Tony Clark, the executive director of the MLB Players Association, said the league’s players are “very well aware” of the sweeping legislation.

“Since it pertains to the All-Star Game, we haven’t had a conversation with the league about that,” Clark told the Boston Globe. “When the opportunity arises, we look forward to having that conversation.”

Clark’s comments come after The Los Angeles Times published an op-ed on Thursday urging the MLB to change the location of its annual summer exhibition, the Globe noted.

Many critics say the increased restrictions are a deliberate attempt to deprive voters of color.

Republicans backing the bill claim it will instill more confidence in those who believed electoral fraud was a major factor in the 2020 presidential election.
