Mirage expands weekday hotel closings to casino and restaurants

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – The Mirage hotel casino on the Las Vegas Strip will be closed Monday through Wednesday starting January 4, a company spokesman said.

A representative from MGM Resorts tells Action News that the week’s shutdown is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the company does not expect operations to be limited until last February, but it will reevaluate the situation.

Last month, the company announced that its hotel tower would be closing during the week, saying it did not expect those closures to last through December. Monday’s announcement extends the closures to all other amenities at the Mirage.

13 Action News financial analyst Steve Budin said if visitor numbers don’t increase, we could see more hotels follow suit.

“All the casinos will analyze the data and if the visitor numbers don’t improve, I will see them closing too,” said Budin.

Other businesses on the Strip such as Planet Hollywood, Mandalay Bay, Park MGM, Palazzo Tower, and Encore have midweek dark days, but these only affect hotel hours.

As business levels remain low on weekdays due to COVID-19 and group meeting restrictions, we have decided to temporarily close The Mirage Monday through Wednesday effective January 4, 2021. This closure will include the casino, hotel and restaurants in addition to all other amenities. While we currently do not expect the mid-week closure to remain in effect beyond February, we will continue to evaluate how long The Mirage’s mid-week closure will remain in effect.
