Minor is strangled in Chalatenango during apparent cell phone theft | News from El Salvador

Roberto Carlos Gutiérrez, 40, who is the prime suspect in the murder and strangulation of a 12-year-old teenager, was arrested by police in Agua Caliente, Chalatenango Municipality.

The arrest of the suspect was carried out yesterday. The brutal crime is said to have been committed in Nueva Concepción, always Chalatenango.

Initial police investigations show that Gutiérrez intercepted the boy when he went to buy something from a nearby store, at which point he threw him on the ground, beat him and strangled him. Everything would have to do with the theft of a cell phone owned by the minor.

After the attack, neighbors helped the minor, tried to take him to Rosales Hospital in San Salvador, but he died on the way.

As it turned out, Gutiérrez had been convicted of the rape of a minor in 2013 and was released in 2019.
