Mojang announced that yesterday Minecraft Dungeons Arcade are closets on the way to arcades in North America for limited testing, with more cabinets later this year.

Released last year on Xbox One and PC Minecraft Dungeons is a Diablo-like dungeon crawler set in the blocky world of MinecraftUp to four players can jump together and fight back waves Minecraft enemies, such as skeletons, zombies, and spiders. Now there is a new one, less convenient, and vnsafe way to play Minecraft DungeonsJust go to an arcade (during a pandemic) to play the new Minecraft Dungeons Arcade game, developed by Play Mechanix and Mojang.

As explained in one blog post announcing the new arcade machine Minecraft Dungeons Arcade will perform the action and gameplay of the original game and simplify things a bit to make it work better as a co-op arcade game. Players will even earn various physical transactions cards they can collect and scan into the machine to find new powers, weapons, and pets.

The case also looks great and the in-game screenshots shared by Mojang look great. It all sounds nice. But I can’t imagine venturing into the world now, during the Covid-19 pandemic, just to play an arcade game other people may have touched and played just a little before. Especially if that game is available at home and is fine there.

Mojang emphasized that that they only send cabinets to arcades follow local health guidelines ”om help slow and reduce the spread of covid risk. But maybe this could have waited until this summer, after that more people have been vaccinated
