Military police officer dies while on duty in Támara prison

TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS.- A military police officer was killed on the night of Friday, January 15, when he was allegedly attacked by an inmate at Támara prison, in the Amarateca Valley, a few kilometers from the Honduran capital.

The deceased was identified as Pedro Lopez Vasquez (26), who was originally from the municipality of Santa Elena, La Paz and was assigned to the fifth battalion of the Military Police of Public Order (PMOP).

Versions

According to some versions after death, “The Montañez” As his colleagues told him, he entered one of the cells with the apparent purpose of delivering food to a prisoner, but he hit him on the head with a heavy padlock and later wounded him with a sharp object.

Other previously released reports indicated that the tragic death occurred during a riot at the penal center, so while the officers tried to restrain those deprived of their freedom, López Vásquez received an unexpected shot.
