The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Orlando Jorge Mera, reported that the “La Manaclita Mining Project” will not be carried out in Loma Miranda after the Falconbridge Dominicana company submitted a request to submit the project to the environmental management process.
Likewise, it reported that the ministry received a formal notice from company directors indicating that they had decided to withdraw the aforementioned request.
It is recalled that the company Falcon Bridge Dominicana (Falcondo) had requested an extension of the above entity to continue its mining activities in Loma Miranda.
In this sense, Minister Orlando Jorge Mera said that in his government, “the stakes are and will remain the defense of the environment, natural resources and ecosystems of the Dominican Republic.”
He clarified that the request was received from the mining company in light of the fact that Law 64-00 on the Environment and Internal Regulations specify that the Department should receive requests from a natural or legal person and then investigate what is the most. useful for conserving the country’s natural resources.
Jorge Mera explained that the institution he leads will continue to respect the judicial decisions on Loma Miranda and the engineering studies previously conducted in that area.
