Miles Morales has already surpassed The Last of Us, Part 2

PlayStation has had many major first-party releases over the past year. Between The Last of Us Part II Spirit of Tsushima, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sony developers have been releasing high-quality releases at a breakneck pace since 2020. But among the publisher’s most prominent releases, you might be surprised to know which one has performed the best in terms of sales.

The NPD Group, a company that tracks sales data in the United States, unveiled the best-selling video games of March 2021 earlier in the day. In the process, it also updates its list of the best-selling games as a whole from the past 12 months. The top of the list was filled with common mainstays like Call of Duty, Madden and Assassin’s Creed to name a few. But somewhat surprisingly, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has even been the fifth best-selling game overall in the past year. In fact, it even beat that of The Last of Us Part II and Spirit of Tsushima

Part of the reason for that Miles Morales is certainly because the game appears on multiple platforms. The title launched on the first day last November with the PlayStation 5, but also came to PlayStation 4 on the same day. Since it was also one of the few next-gen games that could be played right away on the PS5, it makes sense that many picked it up right next to their new console.

Still to be seen Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales lash out The Last of Us Part II, in particular, is pretty shocking. The original The last of us is one of Sony’s best-selling video games ever made, meaning it seemed likely that the sequel would hit similar numbers. And while The Last of Us Part II has sold absolutely pretty well, to see Miles Morales Surpassing it this way (especially with less time available) may be a bit unexpected. Yet these figures tell a different story, perhaps worldwide. It’s hard to know for sure.

Regardless, Sony should definitely be happy with how the past year has gone, and ahead, it looks like it should be able to maintain that momentum. At the time of writing, the studio is already scheduled to release titles such as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Returns God of War: Ragnarok, and Horizon Forbidden West before the year ends.
