Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic receives apologies from Red Star Belgrade for racist abuse

Red Star Belgrade apologized for racist abuse against AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic during their Europa League clash on Thursday.

The two sides met in the Serbian capital and Ibrahimovic, a Swedish citizen of Bosnian descent, was the victim of abuse by sections of the home crowd.

A video circulating on social media showed a man shouting at Ibrahimovic a derogatory word for Muslims in Serbia.

“As a club we have done everything we can to ensure that the organization of the match was at the level of the two big clubs, and we will not allow one primitive individual to tarnish the traditionally known hospitality of us country and our people, ”the statement read.

“Red Star, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, will find the above person and insist that he bear all the consequences of such behavior.”

The game ended 2-2 with Red Star, who had only 10 men left, scoring an injury goal to earn a draw.
