Directed by and starring George Clooney, “Midnight Sky” (“The Midnight Sky” in the original language) is a movie based on Lily Brooks-Dalton’s novel “Good Morning, Midnight”. The post-apocalyptic tape of Netflix follows Augustine, a lone scientist in the Arctic, as he tries to prevent Sully and his fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe.

While astronaut Sully (Felicity Jones) is aboard the Aether spacecraft on his flight back from Jupiter, Augustine Lofthouse discovers he’s not alone, as a girl named Iris is accidentally left behind.
The two stories intertwine when the crew of astronauts get lost and contact NASA, and the scientist, after an arduous and dangerous journey with Iris, arrives at the Hazenmeer weather station and contacts them.

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END OF “MIDNIGHT SKY”?
After initial communication with Earth, Aether has an accident that forces some of his crew to repair the ship. When more space objects are about to return, it hits the ship and causes a fatal wound to Maya Peters (Tiffany Boone).
After the tragedy, Sully manages to communicate with Augustine, who recommends them return to K23, as there is almost nothing left on Earth. Despite the scientist’s advice, Sánchez (Demián Bichir) and Mitchell (Kyle Chandler) decide to use a shuttle to return to their families and take Maya’s body.
Meanwhile, Commander Adewole (David Oyelowo) and Sully, expecting a daughter, prefer to start a new life in K23. “Midnight skyEnds with the young astronaut telling the terminally ill man how he inspired her to join NASA.
When Sully talks about her mother, it is revealed that she is actually the scientist’s daughter. He also tells her her name is Iris, just like the girl who accompanied Augustine on his journey. This means that that little girl was not real.

As the scientist asks Iris to describe the beauty of humanity’s new potential home, Augustine remembers all the time she spent discovering that place and all that she sacrificed in doing so. Hence, he imagines holding the girl’s hand and looking at the planet that glows in orange, blue and purple.
Finally, the signal is cut and Adewole says, “I think it’s us now,” Sully replies, “Just us,” and the camera remains static while they work and the first credits appear.
In an interview with Esquire, George Clooney said, “My intention with that shot was that it would suddenly leak in the sense that they now have a much greater responsibility than themselves, that is, they have a responsibility to humanity. That is a great responsibility, ”explains the director of“Midnight sky”.
“Ultimately, my intention was to get an overwhelming sense of responsibility, and then the vision of ‘Okay, now let’s get back to work.’ You can only tackle the big problems if you bow your head and go back to work, ”he added.
