One of the sold-out 2021 Mustang Mach-E First Editions – Ford’s first all-electric Mustang – made its arrival in Midland this week, as a local customer drove it off the parking lot.
Chris Light, a longtime Midland customer at Ford Lincoln dealer in Midland, said he ordered the First Edition Mach-E a year ago. While Ford has not specified exactly how many initial editions have been made, it is reported that there is a limit of 50,000 for the first 12 months worldwide, sales advisor Mark Lawson explained.
Light and his wife Jackie Light already own a 2019 Mustang GT convertible. 5.0L V8 and have had hybrids in the past. However, they joke that the Mach-E will now offset the CO2 emissions of Chris’ other Mustang.
“It really comes down to longer term climate change and balancing the situation. That’s a lot of fun – it’s total horsepower therapy, ”said Chris of his GT. “But in the end you have to do the right thing in general.”
As Chris explained, unlike other electric vehicles, he was attracted to the Mach-E for its affordability and logical properties. He said he looks forward to “becoming one” with his new vehicle on the road.
“It’s the 21st century representation of what a Mustang should be and where it’s going. And it’s beautiful, ”said Chris.
He explained that if the vehicle had had a different or new nameplate, he would not have had the same confidence to buy it. The fact that Ford used one of the most iconic nameplates on its new electric car meant for Chris that he was there to stay; that Ford seriously invested in it.
The Mustang nameplate can be seen in the rear lights of the Mach-E and the unmistakable emblem; however, the vehicle itself is an SUV with a very different look from previous Mustangs. Although the vehicle has 346 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque.
‘This has an eruption; this has history, ”Lawson said of the Mach-E.
And while Lawson already has a Mach-E sale to his credit, he expects it to be far from the last.
“This thing’s going to sell like crazy,” he said.
The first edition Mach-E is priced in the low $ 50,000, is four-wheel drive, and has a longer range battery that can go about 270 miles on a single charge. The four-door car features red painted brake calipers, metal pedal covers, contrast stitching on the seat and a sill trim with First Edition imprint.
It is the only all-electric Ford car in production, as the Focus Electric was retired in 2013 and had a battery range of only around 80 miles (130 kilometers) by comparison. The Mach-E can be connected to the largest electric vehicle charging network in the world and is a zero-emission vehicle, meaning it does not release any waste products like a traditional motorbike.
Unlike the comparable Telsa Model Y, the Mach-E is eligible for a federal tax credit.
Under the hood you will of course not find a gas engine, but extra storage space. The car is also equipped with an ‘infotainment system’ and a see-through roof.
