While millions of gamers are still struggling to find a store with one Xbox series X in stock, those who already own the device may have noticed that their controllers do not stay connected to their consoles. Microsoft now recognizes the problem and promises to fix it.

For many Xbox Series X users, controllers detach of the console may appear randomly or sporadically. In in other cases it occurs while playing a specific game, some of which (including our own review editor Alex Cranz) to have attributed for interference with their home wireless network.

However, for anyone who has spent some time browsing Support Forums from Microsoft or threads like this one on RedditObviously, the Xbox Series X’s problems staying connected to its controllers aren’t an isolated issue. Microsoft has recognized the problem. In a statement provided to the edge, a Microsoft spokesperson said: “We are aware that some players may disconnect from their new Xbox Wireless Controllers and our teams are actively working on a fix to be included in a future update.”

The challenge for Microsoft is that the problem of disconnecting controllers from the console happens in a few different ways ways. For some, the controller just won’t stay paired with the console, while for others, a controller appears to be properly synced even though the console isn’t registering any input or button presses. And in other cases, disconnected controllers seem to be a much more common problem when playing titles such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Alex Cranz said the problem can be solved by removing the batteries from the controller and then reinserting them (essentially switch the appliance off and on again). Unfortunately, it is not clear what is causing the dropped connection in the first place, and while Microsoft said it is investigating, there is currently no timetable for it when a new patch or fix may be available.

The only good news is that if you’re a PC user who has been troubled by the connection between the Xbox Series controller and a Windows computer via Bluetooth, Microsoft has already released a patch via Windows Update therefore.

So for someone out there wondering why their Xbox Series X controller randomly disconnected from their console, at least you know it’s a real problem. H.probably Microsoft can soon come up with a solution.
